In Hoot, what is a cause and effect from each chapter?
Chapter 1: Cause = Dana smashes Roy's face against the bus window. Effect = Roy notices a strange running boy.
Chapter 2: Cause = Dana tries to stop Roy from getting off the bus. Effect = Roy punches Dana in the face.
Chapter 3: Cause = More vandalism is discovered by the police. Effect = The police captain orders an increase of patrols.
Chapter 4: Cause = Delinko forgot to bring coffee with him. Effect = He falls asleep, and his squad car gets vandalized.
Chapter 5: Cause = Roy is rummaging through Mullet Fingers's campsite. Effect: Mullet Fingers captures Roy.
Chapter 6: Cause = Delinko has made newspaper headlines. Effect = He is confined to desk duty for one month.
Chapter 7: Cause = Roy's parents mention to Delinko the story about the officer that fell asleep in his car. Effect: Delinko quickly leaves Roy's house.
Chapter 8: Cause = Beatrice gets on the bus. Effect = Dana stops trying to beat up Roy.
Chapter 9: Cause = There are reptiles on the construction site. Effect = Curly calls the reptile wrangler to get rid of the snakes.

Chapter 13: Cause = Roy tells his father about the owls and Mullet Fingers. Effect = Mr. Eberhardt agrees to spend some time thinking about the entire situation.
Chapter 14: Cause = Roy and Mullet Fingers get to spend quite a bit of time talking to each other without Beatrice present. Effect = The two boys bond and become closer friends.
Chapter 15: Cause = Roy suckers Dana into trespassing on the construction site. Effect = Dana is arrested and accused of being the vandal.
Chapter 16: Cause = Beatrice’s home situation is not good. Effect = Beatrice spends the night at Roy’s house.
Chapter 17: Cause = The new seats for the construction vehicles will arrive on Wednesday. Effect = Chuck sets the groundbreaking ceremony for Wednesday.
Chapter 18: Cause = Delinko is patrolling the construction site. Effect = He discovers the owls.
Chapter 19: Cause = Delinko expresses his concern about the owls to Curly. Effect = Curly tells Delinko to forget about the owls. Cause = Roy asks his parents if he can go to the groundbreaking ceremony. Effect = Mr. Eberhardt writes Roy a note to excuse him from school at lunch.
Chapter 20: Cause = Roy and Mullet Fingers bring forth evidence that owls are living on the construction site. Effect = Chuck is enraged and the rest of the town joins in the protest against the construction.
Chapter 21: Cause = A news reporter shows up at Roy’s house. Effect = Roy is able to give concrete proof to somebody that can do something with it that Mother Paula’s has missing documentation for their construction.
Epilogue: Cause = Mother Paula’s gets lots of bad press for the owl incident. Effect: Chuck ends up resigning his position, and the company will try to clean up their image by donating a bunch of money to the Nature Conservancy.
