Global interdependence is also useful to achieve great tasks, such as space exploration. Although the Cold War included intense rivalry between the US and the USSR in space, the two countries have worked well together in recent years in space, and other nations work with them.
In the absence of global interdependence, xenophobia is more likely to occur. In other words, the lack of contact between different nationalities could give rise to racism and intolerance.
There are many other areas in which global interdependence is desirable. The world has gotten smaller, so global interdependence is increasingly imperative.


The greatest benefit of global interdependence is that it promotes harmony between nations, making war much less likely. Any country that depends on a variety of other countries for essential goods has an obvious motive to attempt peaceful reconciliation of any disputes with those countries, rather than risk an economic downturn or even threaten its own survival by military aggression. Since war is the single most wasteful activity in which humans engage, this is of vast benefit to humanity.
A related benefit is that global interdependence motivates international understanding, encouraging people to broaden their horizons and engage with other cultures. This increases friendship and knowledge-sharing across borders.
A third benefit is that the division of labor, which is increased in a situation of global interdependence, can make manufacturing much more efficient through greater specialization. This leads to cheaper, higher-quality goods and means that each nation can concentrate on doing what it does best.
