Research a green or eco- friendly cleaning procduct such as Green Works by Clorox Company... What is the difference in the chemical composition of the green product line compared to more traditional cleaning products? How are these products produced? How are they degraded in the environment? What impact do these products have on the environment compared to the more traditional cleaning products?

Clorox was among the first companies in the United States to launch a green cleaning line, Green Works, in the year 2008. It was also among the first Consumer Packaged Goods companies to disclose its product ingredients to the public. From Clorox’s Green Works website, we find that this line of green cleaning products offer the following, over and above what other traditional cleaning products have:
Ingredients that are made up of plant or mineral components
Biodegradable ingredients such as corn and coconuts
Products that are not tested on animals
Products that have “environmentally sustainable” packaging
Products that are recognized by EPA’s “Design for the Environment” program
Products listed within the Green Works range include dish-washing liquids, laundry detergents, toilet bowl cleaners, compostable cleaning wipes, multi-surface cleaners, bathroom cleaners, chlorine-free bleach etc.
A 2016 project, based out of the California State Fair, in attempting to analyze biodegradability and toxicity levels of four green cleaning products, Honest Laundry, Green Works, Dreft, and Tide, set out a variety of experiments. One experiment exposed super worms to garden soil mixed with the detergents. Results showed that Honest Laundry products were the least toxic in the category as they did not kill any worms during the period of study. However, Green Works and Tide products proved to be as toxic as any other conventional detergent as their use resulted in the death of quite many worms.
The EPA states that most green chemicals degrade to non-harmful substances when released to the environment. This benefits plants and animals that depend on the environment for survival. Other advantages of the biodegradability nature of green products are reduced global warming, less contamination of the ecosystem by chemicals, and less pollution leading to cleaner water, air, and safer food.
